Trustmark and United Way Partner in “Break to Educate” Series
Trustmark, a national benefits provider, is a long-time and loyal supporter of United Way of Lake County. Our mission to improve lives in Lake County, and Trustmark’s mission are in happy alignment. We are thrilled to have Trustmark as a partner all these years, and we are excited to participate in their “Break to Educate” series, presented by Trustmark Cares.
Trustmark’s mission of helping people increase wellbeing through better health and greater financial security extends to the communities in which we work and live. Our associates work as individuals and as one company to give back and improve the quality of life for all.
Trustmark Cares formally came into existence a couple of years ago and it has been evolving into a strong program to engage employees in their communities. Trustmark Cares is the brand for the company’s three pillars of community engagement: the Associate Volunteer program, The Trustmark Foundation, and employee giving including its annual United Way campaign. Dan Mandarino, Vice President, who leads Trustmark Cares, chatted with us about their Break to Educate series.
Break to Educate
The COVID-19 pandemic presented unique challenges to engaging employees in the three pillars. Trustmark Cares brainstormed ways to get organizations in front of its employees. They wanted to present stories that are empowering and engaging, and find ways for employees to give back to their local community.
Trustmark Cares’ “Break to Educate” series is an opportunity for employees to “take a break” from their normal workday to learn about the organizations and causes that Trustmark employees support.
Dan Mandarino stressed that it is important to support the communities where Trustmark has a footprint and connect employees across all Trustmark locations nationally. The series was an excellent tool to do that by presenting organizations with a national presence and reach and highlighting local issues such as United Way’s work in Lake County. Employees can see the similarities and differences of issues in all geographies where they work and the impact of the pandemic.
The Break to Educate series invited organizations to talk about hunger/food insecurity, housing insecurity, the social determinants of health, and a planned poverty simulator. It has been a very successful series and has engaged employees across the country.
