Staff Spotlight: Sarah Campos
Familiar Faces Friday is back to introduce Sarah Campos, our Digital Marketing and Communications Manager. Sarah oversees many different projects here at United Way of Lake County, and one of those projects is our blog!
When did you start working at United Way of Lake County?
I started working at United Way of Lake County in 2013.
What is your title and role?
I am the Digital Marketing and Communications Manager. In my role, I handle our digital marketing strategy and oversee United Way’s marketing and communication projects.
What made you want to be a part of this organization?
I started college as an education major with the intention of becoming a preschool teacher. I’ve always had a connection to education and know that it is a necessity for a thriving society. Although I ended up graduating with a degree in Communications, I was determined to work for an organization that was changing its community for the better. United Way of Lake County understands the power of education and has developed effective programs that are creating lasting change for children and their families.
Which of United Way’s programs do you connect to most and why?
I personally connect with our Stay In School Program that exposes middle and high school to career opportunities after graduation. We’ve connected kids with individuals who have stood in their shoes and found a way out of poverty. I think it is great for students to see the possibilities as they start thinking about college and for programs, like Stay In School, to be there along the way as they navigate their path after graduation.
What is your favorite part of your job here?
One of my favorite parts of working at United Way is having the opportunity to meet the children and families that receive support through our programs. It validates the work I do to see a child learn how to write their name or talk to a mother about how our programming has allowed her to be the best parent for her child.
When you are not at work, what kinds of things do you do with your time?
When I’m not at work, I’m usually doing something active. One of my biggest passions is playing volleyball. I’ve played for over ten years now and am currently a high school club coach for the Lake County Boys Volleyball Club in Zion.
